presented by the Roanoke Master Gardener Association

Join us at the Roanoke Master Gardener Association’s booth for a fun, hands-on activity where you can make your very own seed ball! We’ll provide everything you need—wildflower seeds, clay, and water—to create these compact, eco-friendly mini gardens. Seed balls are a great way to plant wildflowers that support local pollinators like bees and butterflies. Stop by our booth to learn about the importance of wildflowers in promoting biodiversity and take home a seed ball to plant in your garden or yard!

Why Seed Balls Are Beneficial:

Seed balls are a simple and effective way to plant seeds, especially in areas where the soil is poor or where traditional gardening methods are difficult. Encased in clay, the seeds are protected from the elements, birds, and other wildlife until conditions are right for germination. Once the seed ball is placed on the ground, rain will break down the clay, allowing the seeds to take root. Seed balls are also great for introducing plants to urban or neglected areas, helping to create habitats for pollinators and contributing to a healthier environment.
